City of Tshwane is hunting for a new mayor, again
The City of Tshwane is hunting for a new mayor following the disqualification of Murunwa Makwarela on Tuesday morning.
Sources close to him said this was a witch hunt from the DA-led coalition because he defeated its mayoral councillor, Cilliers Brink. "The disqualification is in terms of Section 158 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996, also read with section 47 of the Constitution. Furthermore, this disqualification is also in terms of schedule 1 section 19 of the Municipal Structures Act .
"This follows Makwarela’s failure to produce evidence that he is not an unrehabilitated insolvent and so ineligible to hold office as a councillor in terms of section 158 of the Constitution," read the DA's statement.
