The City of Ekurhuleni says it will switch off power and water for non-paying customers.
The City of Ekurhuleni is on a campaign to recoup R26 billion from residents who have been defaulting on their municipal accounts.
“Like other municipalities, the city is experiencing constraints on the revenue front and that is why in the last quarter we were sitting with 11 days cash on hand and that is a sign that we are not collecting revenue optimally,” he said.Dlabathi said the townships in the municipality had a glaring culture of non-payment compared to the suburbs.
He said those willing to enter into a payment arrangement with the city will have a portion of their debt wiped off to enable them to cope with the payments.
