The City of Cape Town is hosting a public awareness campaign about the Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA) on Monday, 30 September 2024. The campaign aims to educate residents about their rights under the Act and how to access information held by both public and private bodies.
As such, the City intends to host a public Promotion of Access to Information Act awareness campaign, which locals are welcome to attend,The campaign will be hosted by the City’s Legal Services Department at the Cape Town Civic Centre on Monday, 30 September 2024.
The Promotion of Access to Information Act 2 of 2000 serves as the country’s access to information law which enables citizens to gain access to information held by both public and private bodies. The Act intends to give effect to the constitutional right of access to any information held by the State and any information held by another person that is required for the exercise or protection of any rights.The purpose of the campaign is to increase public knowledge on PAIA and to inform members of the public of their rights in terms of the Act.
A committed City staff team will be on standby to share further information on rights of access to City records and any procedural requirements involved. Attendees will also be exposed to the City’s dedicated Walk-In Public Interface Office, the ‘Access to City Records’ office, located on the Civic Centre’s second floor.
