City centre ‘menace’ left numerous small businesses out of pocket after burglary spree in Arndale
A serial burglar and ‘menace’ to the city centre left numerous small businesses out of pocket after carrying out a spree in the Arndale. Callum Fleming, 25, repeatedly targeted shops, cafe’s and salons throughout the city centre shopping mall.
Prosecuting, Carl Hargan said the burglaries began on December 8 last year, when Fleming was caught jumping over the gated entrance to Bobo Tea, after the store had closed. He damaged a cupboard, which had to be replaced, and stole £500 cash. “He stole a case of Coca Cola cans, a case of Fruit Shoot bottles, a first aid kit and four tubs of Nutella, to the value of £142. He was also seen on CCTV to leave the freezer door open, the value of the food wasted was £1,000.”
He was later caught going equipped to steal in the Arndale, when he was caught with screwdrivers, a monkey wrench and 15 cans of Red Bull. Appearing unrepresented due the current industrial action, Fleming consented to being sentenced without legal representation. Speaking over a videolink, he said: “I was going through a hard time at the time, innit. I’m sorry for what I did.”
