Dramatic images and video were shared on social media on Sunday evening as local traders tried valiantly to keep water out, but a number of retailers were still forced to keep their doors closed for part of Monday to assist with the clean up. “We have got a grille and sandbags as protection but they don’t work with the level and speed of the water coming down the street and when they re-did the roads, they made them narrower for traffic calming but that means the water flows faster.
Stirling MSP Evelyn Tweed has written to Stirling Council chief executive Carol Beattie demanding answers on the flooding problems in the city centre and called for a “long-term solution” to be found to reduce the impact of future similar events. Go Forth Stirling have offered the flood fund offering small grants to businesses affected by the flooding, with Stirling BID members urged to get in touch if they have suffered damage or are at risk from future flooding.
