Invasion of Ukraine led Western banks in Moscow to remove foreigners from top positions and study ways to exit market

Russian divisions of foreign banks, such as Citi and Raiffeisen Bank International, have started looking for staff this month after Russian authorities moved to block them exiting the country, industry sources and a recruiting company said.

As a result, foreign banks are trying to fill vacancies that opened up when staff left suddenly earlier in the year. Raiffeisen Bank posted 276 job openings in Russia in July, while Citi was looking for candidates to fill 84 vacancies in Russia, said Headhunter. The Russian business of Austrian banking group Raiffeisen Bank International was looking for a manager in Moscow to service corporate clients in mid-July, based on online job adverts seen by Reuters.
