Cilliers Brink warns of Tshwane instability following Herman Mashaba's coalition exit
Tshwane executive mayor Cilliers Brink during a press briefing on Thursday ahead of a looming motion of no confidence against him. Tshwane mayor Cilliers Brink has described ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba ’s move to withdraw from the DA-led coalition government as a premature, amateur and deceitful decision.
“Mr Mashaba, as I pointed out, has made a premature announcement. It was an amateur, irresponsible, deceitful decision. They have induced a political crisis that is a serious threat to stability and the progress we've made in this city.”It is different reasons. At one point, it was because we performed badly as a government. Then people point out that were part of that same government.
If the motion of no confidence succeeds, ActionSA, currently in negotiations with the ANC to form a coalition government in the city, is poised to take over, and would replace Brink as mayor. City Press previously reported that an indication appeared to have already been given to ActionSA that the party would get the mayoral chain in Tshwane, with the ANC potentially fulfilling the role of speaker.
“We have made our presentation to the national working committee. They are the ones who are going to decide how we move forward. So, we are waiting for the feedback from them,” he said.
