Several residents and local observers say it’s time the city implement a stricter vetting process for people interested in council positions, or mandate an election when a seat becomes vacant. “The best vetting process is an election,” he added. “The lesson I’ve learned is that elections are better than appointments.”
His three other council colleagues did not agree, saying it was more important to fill the seat quickly than to leave constituents without a representative for months.“The League of Women Voters supports choosing officials by a vote of the people,” League President Kim Knox said in an emailed statement.
