Below, rising Chicago rapper Chris Crack shares his soundtrack.
“The importance of Black music can never be overstated. I chose these songs because this is the shit that raised me," Chris Crack tells "This is the music I heard my mom, older brother, and aunts and uncles blasting from the stereo in the living room at family functions. These are songs that the dopeboys would pull up banging out the trunks of box chevy caprices while I played in the back of my project building.
"These are songs that I had to hurry up & cut off when my mom walked in my room, because my 11-year-old ass shouldn’t have been listening to all that cussing," he continues. "And songs from artists that inspired me. Songs that I still listen to while on my way to the studio to clear my head. I’m salty ALOT of the songs I would’ve picked aren’t on any streaming services due to being on mixtapes that got lost somewhere in the sauce.
