Senior officials of the Chinese Communist Party have gathered for their closed-door annual autumn meeting in Beijing on Thursday to ensure an unprecedented third term in power for the country’s leader Xi Jinping and push forward a resolution that would put him on the same lofty stature as the country’s most influential modern rulers, Mao Zedong and Deng Xiaoping....
Xi, who eliminated term limits on the country’s presidency in 2018, is expected to seek a third term unopposed—breaking with the decades-long norm of no Chinese leader serving more than two five-year terms.
