Human rights advocates have sought to chip away at support for China in the world's top human rights body.
China was one of 15 members elected to the UN Human Rights Council by secret ballot Tuesday morning, granting it a second term despite deep and well-documented concerns over its human rights record, while Russia failed to garner enough votes to rejoin the body.'Today, China will again be elected a member of the HRC.
'Such an honor should never be conferred upon one of today's most egregious violators of human rights,' she said.'Anti-China parties' use human rights in Xinjiang and elsewhere to direct criticism against China, Chinese state-backed news agency the Global Times wrote Sunday, adding many 'countries that uphold justice have firmly backed China.
