China is on course to overtake Japan to become the world's number one car exporter by the end of the year, according to Moody's Analytics.
China has surpassed Germany to become the world's second largest car exporter, and is now on course to overtake Japan's placing as the top exporter, according to a Moody's Analytics report.
"China made heads turn through the pandemic as it strutted past South Korea in 2021 and Germany in 2022, making it the second-largest car exporter," the credit ratings agency said in a report last week. "At this pace, China is on track to overtake Japan by the end of the year," Moody's economists wrote, a global ranking which Japan has claimed since 2019.A surging demand for electric vehicles sent overall auto exports from China beyond the levels seen before the pandemic.
