Exactly where the 8- and 9-year-old children were in the house -- and whether they saw the shooting -- remained unclear after they finished testifying.
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Two children who were at their house when their father fatally shot their mother last year took the witness stand in their father’s murder trial this week.
Omnisun Azali’s mother, Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court Judge Cassandra Collier-Williams, called 911 after her son took the children to her house following the shooting. On cross-examination, Saffold asked the boy about his interview with an investigator from the Cuyahoga County Department of Children and Family Services days after the shooting. In that interview, the boy told the investigator that he was outside with his sister and heard gunshots. In another interview, he told police that he was in the garage and saw the shooting through the doorway.
She said she saw her father with a gun but could not see her mother. She acknowledged that her mother could have had a gun. Cosgrove argued that the defense attorneys also could have sought the video and denied their motion. She also limited their ability to mention that police failed to secure the video during the trial.
