The health watchdog has now served the trust with a warning notice
The way Kettering General Hospital cares for children and young people has been branded 'inadequate' following an inspection by the Care Quality Commission . to make immediate improvements following their findings.
The CQC found the NHS trust had "ineffective systems" to assess and treat people at risk of sepsis. This included an incident where someone who developed sepsis hadn’t had a screening for over seven hours after arrival at the hospital, which inspectors said was "totally unacceptable". Inspectors were told of an incident where a vulnerable patient had locked themselves in a bathroom and used emergency equipment as a ligature.
Staff did not always feel respected, supported and valued. The service did not always have an open culture where people, their families and staff could raise concerns without fear. Staff were also not always clear about their roles and accountabilities and did not always keep detailed records of people’s care and treatment.
