Exclusive: The number of lollipop staff from the nine local authorities which were able to provide figures has reduced by 43 per cent since 2007/08.
Children are increasingly "at risk" after figures showed that the number of lollipop staff has fallen since the SNP came to power.
Organiser Sean Baillie said: “Nothing could be more important than ensuring the safety of our children but councils have been making cuts with potentially catastrophic consequences for years. “The council cuts have been tearing away at the fabric of daily life in Scotland and they need to stop and reinvestment needs to start.
East Dunbartonshire had lost the largest share of its lollipop staff between 2007 and 2022, going down by 69 per cent. It had 68 staff in 2007, compared to 21 in 2022.East Lothian was the only local authority which had an increase, going from 42 in 2015 to 46 in 2022. “Crossing staff can help give parents and pupils the confidence that walking to school is the way to go, creating a safe environment and encouraging healthy habits.
