“I have a really good job. My husband has a really good job. We can afford to pay for childcare. I think I'm surprised to find that, essentially, money doesn't buy you access — there just isn't any.”“The sheer number of posts, and the desperation of people is really, really disturbing.”A health-care worker with Eastern Health said she can’t return to work because she can’t find childcare for her 15-month-old son.

SaltWire did not get an interview as of the Friday press deadline.

Conway said she had a space secured in a dayhome, but the dayhome provider herself is having a baby, so now she’s back to square one trying to find a space for her daughter. St. John’s resident Jennifer Stamp is another mother desperately searching for childcare. She’s worried she might also have to extend her maternity leave to 18 months, taking six months unpaid.
