Police have announced they have found a child's body buried in the garden of a house after a week of digging.

A post-mortem will now be undertaken to establish the cause of death. Police are still at the scene, BirminghamLive reports. Two people were previously arrested and have appeared in court charged with neglect and on suspicion of causing or allowing the death of a child. They were arrested on December 9.

A police spokesperson said: "Officers searching the garden of a property in Handsworth have discovered what are believed to be human remains. The body is believed to be that of a child; a post-mortem will be carried out in due course to establish the cause of death.
