Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane has lauded the performance of Nkosingiphile Ngcobo after 'Mshini' starred during Saturday's Soweto derby triumph over Orlando Pirates. Read more here ▶️

"I think Mshini came to the party and gave us the balance we needed because we needed someone who can stay on the ball a little bit longer and also connect with the front three at the right time, and he did exactly that," head coach Arthur Zwane said.

Zwane also revealed that Ngcobo's selection in the starting line-up was formulated in training and with an eye on capitalising on the absence of Buccaneers midfielder Miguel Timm, who was ruled out of the encounter through suspension. "We prepared Mshini reasonably well, we knew that Timm was out and he has given Pirates very good balance in the middle because he can fight for the ball, he can also play. So, whoever they were going to play between [Fortune] Makaringe or Goodman [Mosele] was always going to be to our advantage," he added.

"That is why we decided to bring in Mshini. We knew that Mshini was going to be operating behind them. That means we don't have that strength in the middle, and that means when we defend we could force them wide, especially with [Monnapule Saleng] on the left. We will force them wide because he is a left-footed player and force them to play those cross because they don't have those tall players except for [Zakhele] Lepasa.

"They also surprised us by starting him but it worked to our advantage because it meant they were one man less in the midfield. We packed the middle with the opinion that we would dominate in the middle and wait for the right moment to attack, and it worked for us. Unfortunately we couldn't take those chances we created from those moments but I think the boys executed the plan very well.
