Chiefs legend and former teammate David Mathebula has defended Amakhosi head coach Arthur Zwane following the loss to Royal AM.
Chiefs were handed their third straight defeat to Royal AM in a highly contested encounter at the Chatsworth Stadium in Durban on Saturday night. Despite efforts from both sides, An early goal by Ricardo Nascimento proved to be the decider between the two sides. Amakhosi had plenty of chances to score but could not find the crucial equaliser and ultimately, Zwane’s reign began with a loss. However, his former teammate and club legend David Mathebula has called for calm."It’s a brand new team with new players, they have to get to know each other and understand how they play. Zwane also still has to see them playing together and understand now can complement each other.
"As individuals, I think they are all great signings but we have to give them time. Most importantly, the supporters have to back the team. I trust Arthur and Sheppard will create a formidable and competitive team," he added.Although Zwane is still understood to have full support for the Chiefs' hierarchy, the 48-year-old will have his work cut out for him and his side when they host Maritzburg United at the FNB Stadium on Tuesday night.
A win could ease the pressure on Zwane’s shoulders as he heads to perhaps his biggest test to date when his side takes on league defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns on Sunday.
