SINGAPORE: Singapore Democratic Party secretary-general Chee Soon Juan on Tuesday morning shared his party’s congratulatory letter to former Senior Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam, who was elected President by a landslide last Friday . After expressing congratulations on behalf of the SDP, Dr Chee wrote, “We hope that you will discharge your responsibilities of the Presidency faithfully, both in spirit and letter. We wish you well as you assume your office in the years ahead.
Mr Tan got the least number of votes in the election, 13.88 per cent. Mr Tharman won 70.4 per cent of the votes, while the former GIC group chief investment officer Ng Kok Song, received 15.72 per cent. The chairman of the SDP, Dr Paul Tambyah, also weighed in several times on the presidential election, although he did not endorse any of the candidates.
