Less publicized was another cheating story this month involving Lake Erie walleye that brought guilty pleas in Erie County Common Pleas Court on charges of stealing from a charity. Resulting charges among the defendants included “13 misdemeanor charges of petty theft, one count of fifth-degree felony theft, two misdemeanor counts of receiving stolen property and nine misdemeanor commercial fish violations,” the division statement said.

One media report stated that more serious charges against Carr and Trent were dropped, including first-degree felony counts of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity and third-degree felony counts of tampering with records.In 2005, the business associates pleaded guilty to theft in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court. Their commercial fishing business, Lake Fish Company, was found to be operating as a criminal enterprise.
