A judge concluded the information provided by police was sufficient to establish the necessary reasonable grounds for the issuing of a search warrant by a justice of the peace.

In a news release, police noted it’s illegal to manufacture a firearm without a proper firearms business licence. “3D printed guns do not change current weapons laws and present a risk to community safety,” the release said. The search warrant was based on an ITO — information to obtain — document provided by police. Defence lawyer Jared Aumiller argued the information contained in the ITO was not based on reasonable probable grounds, and therefore breached his client’s charter rights.
