Charles Leclerc surprises with pole position in Mexico Grand Prix qualifying, while investigations are underway for alleged impeding incidents involving Verstappen, Russell, and Alonso.
MEXICO CITY — Charles Leclerc secured pole position for the Mexico Grand Prix following multiple surprises throughout all qualifying sessions Saturday. Here’s what you need to know: Daniel Ricciardo initially gave the top teams a run for their money and both Ferrari drivers put together the top two fastest laps in Q3 on the first runs. Leclerc and Carlos Sainz hadn’t led a session all weekend up until those laps.
Alex Albon may have advanced to Q2 , but it was clear that the Williams driver was struggling. During Q2, he reported over the radio that the FW45 felt like “a totally different car” compared to FP3, which is when he set the second fastest time.
