Post 521 member Bill Schiemann plants an American flag at one of the 18 gravesites of veterans at Crown Cemetery in Pasadena.American Legion Post 521 members Bill Schiemann and Hubert Winters were solemn during a ceremony Saturday at Pasadena's historic Crown Cemetery.

"We're very attached to the ones that sacrificed and died, especially the and who didn't return," Schiemann said."So this day is a big celebration of that. Although we remember it year-round, it's a holiday that's very sad for us in the military.""When I go and I get planted, I hope somebody comes by and plants a flag at my grave," he said.

Then approximately a year after graduating from South Houston, he and a handful of others with signal battalion training were sent to Vietnam. "We didn't have safe duty, but we all came out without a Purple Heart," said Winters, who recalls when he attended Bob Hope shows when the iconic comedian and actor held his Vietnam Christmas tours along with a host of others from Hollywood.
