Several Central Texas school districts, including Round Rock ISD, Austin ISD, and Bastrop ISD, are facing significant budget shortfalls for the upcoming school year, despite the state's large budget surplus, due to the state not increasing per-pupil spending for public education.
RRISD managed to budget in a 1% pay raise and a $1,000 retention bonus if the district meets certain enrollment goals. But at the same time they're forced to tighten their belts because of a $30 million dollar budget shortfall for next school year.
