SYRACUSE, N.Y. — A local favorite, Freihofer’s Bakery Outlet, has closed its doors permanently, and neighbors in Central New York were shocked to arrive at their favorite place and be met with locked doors. “I was going to the Lyncourt Grocery , and one of the managers met me at the door and said, 'Did you see what's going on?' and I'm kind of oblivious to everything," said Mark Michael of Syracuse. "He said, 'The Freihofer’s Bakery just closed down,' and I said, 'What?’”
Freihofer's is no longer open at Lyncourt Plaza in Syracuse. Parent company Bimbo Bakeries USA announced it closed several of its New York state outlets. In addition to the store in the Lyncourt Plaza closing, outlets have closed in Verona, Rome,Freihofer’s Bakery Outlets are popular for their low prices. Local business owner Eric Maliszewski says the impact of the closure will surely be felt.

There are a lot of elderly people and a lot of lower-economic people who depend on a store like this to make sure they can feed themselves.“Now I don't have a place to buy those little gifts for my family and come and buy something I need last minute for my business.”
