This a fixture which has often played out in cagey fashion in Glasgow's east end but observers were treated to a cracker.
Holders Celtic survived an almighty fright to outlast Livingston 4-2 and book their place in the Scottish Cup semi finals thanks to dazzling Daizen Maeda's hat-trick.
Maeda was a menace and Nicolas Kuhn on the right wing was equally dangerous. And the duo carved David Martindale's side apart for the opener as the Japan international punished sleepy Nottingham by latching onto an in-swinger into the danger area. But Mackay was on hand to quickly draw his team level with as he sprung a half-hearted offside trap which deserved to be punished.
Livingston then had a cracking chance from Michael Nottingham but Hart saved brilliantly with his feet. Kuhn was still wreaking havoc but he hobbled off with injury on a day Cameron Carter Vickers also was absent with a troublesome hamstring strain.
