“So it just goes to show you first of all how important it is to people in the communities all around Cape Breton, and secondly, how it’s a collaborative effort. So many people come together to make this happen, and it’s an important part of their lives.” “It’s in our DNA, in Cape Breton, this is part of who we are as a people,” says Birmingham-Beddow. “So I think there was that real desire to get back to Celtic Colors and this celebration of culture. And place, because the colours are an important part of it as well.
“It’s going to be interesting to see who’s here. Normally, I find an exciting part of Celtic Colours is that we have people who travelled from far away and they come many years in a row, and you get to know some of them,” says the Glendale singer, who recalls telling audience members in Texas about Celtic Colours and seeing them turn up the following year.
His innate musical knowledge and skill have also opened the door to many collaborations with international festival guests like the aforementioned Tim Edey, Scottish guitarist Anna Massie and New York cellist Natalie Haas, making him a Celtic Colours MVP with six shows on the schedule this year, from We’ll Meet in Inverness with Kimberley Fraser on Saturday to the all-star Close to the Floor show at the Savoy Theatre on Friday, Oct. 14.
