“He was a great guy … he was my best friend,” said his brother Harold who added it was just five months earlier that another brother – Dalton – passed away. “We’re a big family, very close. It has been tough.”
“He had to talk to everybody and they to him,” he said about his brother’s popularity in the community. “It tells us how much everyone in Truro loved him and the contributions he made to sports in the Truro area, especially in rugby and football, and he was very big in the“Determination and he was a natural … he could play anything,” he said, adding he played hockey as well as the sports everyone knew him from.coaching ranks, credits Anthony for helping to instill in him a love of the game.
“And he made it easier for people to learn to play the game and was enjoyable to play with,” he said, speaking of rugby which was still a burgeoning sport in the area at the time. That all four teammates included an amusing anecdote in their memory, was a testament to the joy Purdy brought to the team and playing the sports they loved.
“He said he would come out and play and we said, sure. As it turned out, he was a good ball player. I remember he batted from the left side and was really fast down the line . He only played one year with us, but we won. Just a great athlete and guy.”
