Cleveland’s second-half rally fell short, losing the home opener, 108-105, in front of a sellout crowd on Friday night.

The Cavs entered the game without 40% of their starting lineup, as both Darius Garland and Jarrett Allen watched from the bench in street clothes. With the offense flailing -- and 3-pointers repeatedly clanging off the rim -- the Cavs trailed by 15 points during a lifeless first half.

All those qualities were on display in Friday’s second half. The Cavs even erased a double-digit lead and went in front by 10 points in the fourth quarter. It seemed like they were going to pull off the kind of comeback that helped define 2022-23. But the young Thunder didn’t relent, and the short-handed Cavaliers appeared to run out of steam, collapsing over the final few minutes.

LeVert chipped in with 17 points. Evan Mobley had 14 points and 15 rebounds, his first double-double of the season.
