No. 4 Dons defense leads the way in 14-13 victory over No. 3 Highlanders
When Cathedral Catholic suffered the worst loss in the storied program’s 64-year history last week, heads were scratched.
Fittingly, the defense sealed the win, Kagen intercepting a pass near midfield with less than 20 seconds to play. A Wing-T team on offense that lives on the ground, Cathedral opened the game in the shotgun, throwing on two of its first three plays. On the second pass, junior quarterback Jack Stevens, a Nevada transfer, hit tight end Ramon Lucero in stride in the middle of the field for a 40-yard touchdown.
Cathedral took the second half kickoff and marched 57 yards to the go-ahead score on an 8-yard run by Will Bond. Cathedral overcame some sloppy play. The Dons committed 15 penalties for 130 yards. A block in the back erased an 85-yard kickoff return for an apparent score by Bond.
