Once premier, Smith’s affection for the COVID wars continued. She said, for instance, that the unvaccinated “have been the most discriminated group that I’ve ever witnessed in my lifetime.” It was a fairly innocuous, if hyperbolic, comment, but one that was entirely tone deaf and risked alienating large swathes of would-be conservative voters.
It also isn’t clear what Smith would be willing to do if no one is watching. A recording surfaced in January of the UCP leader speaking to pastor Artur Pawlowski about charges he was facing related to the Coutts blockade, something clearly inappropriate for a premier to do.
