Conflicting claims from the Mounties about when the government was under investigation are at best bureaucratic incompetence
It was not until nearly 12 hours after the Post first asked the RCMP for comment, and hours after the story had been published online, that the RCMP responded with an email that said, “The statement, in a May 2023 Access to Information Release was sent using information available at the time.”
In a country where passport applications can cause the machinery of government to seize up, the suggestion that different parts of the RCMP are clueless as to what each is doing seems plausible. This post, which rests on the words “it is not,” was obviously lacking context, and clearly did not deny that the Liberals were ever under investigation. Nor did it allude to the fact that the RCMP did state in May that the matter was still being investigated, or that this statement was apparently an error and that the file was closed four months prior.
