A brand-new official image from the movie Wonderwell shows Carrie Fisher in her final unreleased performance, seven years after her 2016 death.

Wonderwell, the final movie to feature a performance from the late Carrie Fisher, gets an official first-look image of her character. Fisher is best known for playing General Leia Organa in the Star Wars franchise, in addition to her work as a memoirist, novelist, and script doctor. She passed away in December 2016 after a medical incident on an airplane.

Deadline shared a brand-new official image from Wonderwell, featuring Carrie Fisher's final onscreen performance seven years after her death. Check out the image below: SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The movie, which was delayed by visual effects post-production issues, is currently set for a theatrical release on June 23, shortly followed by a VOD premiere later this month. In addition to Fisher, who plays a character named Hazel, the fantasy about a young girl discovering an imaginary world named Wonderwell stars Rita Ora, Nell Tiger Free, Sebastian Croft, and Kiera Milward.

Carrie Fisher's Posthumous Career Explained Typically, when a working performer passes away, there are still a few projects they participated in that have yet to come out or are in the middle of production. Because of how long post-production takes, many projects don't come out until a year or more after they wrap filming. This accounts for the way projects starring deceased actors can still come out in the year or two following their deaths.

Wonderwell is able to deliver a whole performance from Fisher because it wrapped shooting six weeks before her untimely death. The unusual delay came from the movie's post-production woes and the effects of the COVID-19 shutdown. While this resulted in an unusual extension of Fisher's posthumous career, it will at least allow the iconic actor to grace screens one last time in a rather unexpected way.
