Carolina Hurricanes sign Calvin de Haan to one-year contract
The 6’1″ left-handed defender from Carp, Ontario previously spent the 2018–19 season with the Hurricanes before being traded to the Chicago Blackhawks, with whom he played from 2019 to 2022.
de Haan scored one goal and 14 points while averaging 18:31 in 74 games with Carolina in 2018–19. In the three seasons since, he’s amassed 24 points and averaged 19:03 in 142 games.Now signed through the end of the 2022–23 season, de Haan will look to carve out a role as a member of a Carolina defensive corps that also includes Jaccob Slavin, Brent Burns, Brady Skjei, Brett Pesce, Ethan Bear, Dylan Coghlan, and Jalen Chatfield.
Most recently, de Haan logged 18:57 on average and scored eight points in 69 games with the Blackhawks in 2021–22. He now returns to the team he signed with as an unrestricted free agent after wrapping up a six-year tenure with the New York Islanders to begin his NHL career.
