Car driver 'tried to get from Wales to Aberdeen while FIVE times over legal limit'
A motorist attempting to drive from Wales to Aberdeen was arrested by police in Stirling - and found to be over five times the drink-drive limit for Scotland. Members of the public alerted police after witnessing what they said was erratic driving of the vehicle on the M80 south of Stirling yesterday evening .
Police say that members of the public called them after noticing the manner in which the car was being driven, and Forth Valley road police were sent out to intercept the vehicle. When stopped, officers say they were shocked to discover that the motorist was attempting to make the long drive from Wales to Aberdeen — normally a 450-mile journey that would take between nine and 10 hours to complete.
The driver was given a roadside breath test and recorded a reading of 111 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath compared to the legal limit in Scotland of 22. The motorist was arrested and held to appear in court.Road Policing Scotland said in a tweet: "Thanks to the public who alerted #ForthValleyRP to the manner of driving of this car on the #M80 at Stirling earlier tonight.
Drinkaware.co.uk says that the alcohol limit for drivers in Scotland has been stricter than the rest of the UK since 2014. In Scotland the drink driving alcohol limit for drivers is 22 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath compared to 35 micrograms per 100 millilitres of breath in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
