convicted of rioting in the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, was sentenced to four years in federal prison Thursday., saying Hale-Cusanelli will also serve 36 months of supervised release once freed from custody.according to NBC News’ Ryan J. ReillyProsecutors argued for 78 months, or 6 1/2 years, behind bars for Hale-Cusanelli, who they say is a white supremacist and anti-semite who poses a danger to the public, and has advocated for civil war.
Hale-Cusanelli has become somewhat of a leader among jailed Capitol riot suspects and has continued to harbor a fondness for Nazi writings and symbols, prosecutors said in pre-sentence reports. Last year, they included in court filings pictures of him wearing a Hitler-style mustache. His lawyer, Nicholas Smith, argued his client had repeatedly been placed in a false light by the “distasteful” and “self-sabotaging” mustache pictures, but he’s really a nice guy who helps others.
