Despite losing in overtime on Saturday night in Montreal, the Caps showed the kind of spark during a two-goal comeback that’s was missing from their first three games.

Capitals forward Dylan Strome scored his first goal of the season Saturday night against the Canadiens. The start to the season hasn’t gone as planned for the Washington Capitals. After what the team felt was a solid training camp and encouraging results in the preseason, the Capitals have largely fallen flat through their first four games.last week against Calgary — and have fallen into a 2-0 hole in each game so far.

“Obviously, we’re having a tough time scoring right now,” Strome said. “We felt good on the bench in the third period and everyone was digging in deep. Just had that feeling like we were going to come back.”In the third period of the game against Calgary, with the score tied 2-2, the Capitals also took several penalties, including giving up a penalty shot.

“I thought was our best period, probably, of the season,” Strome said. “Making big penalty kills, Darcy’s making big saves. We got some more chances to score, too, and obviously found a way to tie it. Got to use that. Probably have to play like that every period from here for a little while now until we get some wins in the column and start finding a way to score some goals.
