We declared a climate emergency, enacting policies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and environmental degradation. We need to accelerate building retrofits for residential homes. We can achieve savings with city retrofits, phase out gas-powered lawn equipment and better divert organic waste from our landfill.Article content
With that new homebuilding, affordable housing needs to be top of mind. We should increase the city investment from $15 million to $50 million annually to build new affordable housing — taking advantage of matching funding from other orders of government. Our bus fares are some of the highest in North America. We should immediately freeze fares and run free transit pilot projects throughout the city. We need to champion Bus Rapid Transit as a cost-effective transit solution on roads like Carling and Baseline.
