The case, according to Ontario Provincial Police, remains open. A renewed appeal for information was most recently put out in 2017.

What she hasn’t subsequently been referred to as, at least not by police or the general public, is her real name, which to this day remains a mystery, as does the identity of her killer.

“I’ve had family members tell me that they’ve pulled over to the side of the road so many times, because from the back, someone looked like their loved one. And they run up to them thinking they’ve found their loved one, and the person turns around and it’s not them. Police believe the Nation River Lady’s body was thrown from the Highway 417 bridge that spans the Nation River just west of Casselman, about 100 yards upstream from where her body was found. The cause of death was determined to be strangulation.

Her wrists were tied with a man’s necktie, while two other neckties bound her ankles. Her head was wrapped in a pair of green “48×70” fringed cloths, possibly throw covers or small bed sheets. A smaller orange, yellow and green floral towel was also wrapped around her head.
