Western Cape police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said the incident occurred shortly after 13:00 on Monday when an unknown suspect opened fire, fatally hitting the girl.

"Circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation. The suspect fled the scene and is yet to be arrested. The motive for this shooting incident is unknown," added Van Wyk. "Anti-Gang Unit detectives investigating the murder and gang operational teams are since last night [Monday] in the area busy with tracing operations,' Van Wyk said.

"It is shocking what transpired in the area. This is behaviour the CPF condemns in the strongest terms, and we call on police to act swiftly in apprehending the suspect," he added.
