The city has committed over R230 million in the next three years to invest on rehabilitation programmes, with officials saying many homeless communities have already benefitted.
CAPE TOWN- The City of Cape Town has committed to support projects that upskill homeless communities.
Non-governmental organisation such as U-turn Ministries, CCID Clean-Up Projects and others have been working with the city to get people off the streets through developmental programmes.The city committed over R230 million in the next three years to invest on rehabilitation programmes. The city's mayoral committee member for economic growth, James Vos, said many homeless people had already been helped to get jobs.
"Building a city of hope in Cape Town is our mission, and to achieve this it requires a bold and ambitious program of excellence. This is exactly what we are doing when it comes to economic development, by placing the emphasis on job readiness and employment opportunities."
