Cape Town implements plan to halve murder rate sabcnews
The Western Cape Minister of Community Safety, who has just appointed 500 new learner law enforcement officers , will this week hold a Safety Cabinet meeting in Cape Town, Western Cape.
Western Cape Minister of Community Safety Albert Fritz says the Safety Cabinet meeting is to outline the implementation of the province’s provincial Safety Plan, which aims to halve the city’s murder rate in the next 10 years. The 500 new officials will receive in-field training and will be deployed to communities most affected by violence, including hot spots like Mitchell’s Plain, Delft and Kraaifontein.
Spokesperson for the Minister of Community Safety Cayla Murray says, “The second group of 500 LLEOs are expected to be appointed by July 2020. Ultimately, the Western Cape Safety Plan foresees a total deployment of 3 000 officers.
