Diners can enter Chefs, in what was once the Edgars store in Claremont, Cape Town, from Cavendish Connect. There is another entrance in Main Road.

Chefs opened in Cape Town on Thursday, introducing SA to the food hall craze that has swept the US and Europe. It seats 400 people in an environment intended to emulate a town square.

Business Insider South Africa was among the first customers to try the dishes created by culinary director George Jardine, an award-winning chef. At the Main Road end of Chefs are an array of 4.2 metre solid ash tables, each of which seats at least 14 people on matching barstools. They bring total seating capacity to 400.

Photographs on the app show what you can expect from each dish. You can choose to eat in or take your food with you. Delivery is due to be offered later.
