Cape Town embarks on first local marathon in the Covid era
Next weekend, the country will witness the first mass participation on the local sporting calendar in more than a year.
More than 5 000 local and international athletes will take part in the 5km, 10km and 21km virtual “peace runs”. Annie Bothma was the first South Africa woman home in 10th place in the race that was won by Kenyans Edwin Kibet Koech and Celestine Chepchirchir. Steyn, the reigning Comrades Marathon champion, will mark her first appearance in the classic marathon on home soil.
