Cape Town City have confirmed the signing of former France junior international striker Amadou Soukouna as they look to bolster their attack for the new campaign.

The 32-year-old has previous experience of the Premier Soccer League during a successful two-year spell with Maritzburg United, where he scored 11 goals in 35 starts in all competitions.City coach Eric Tinkler has previously described Soukouna as the replacement for all-time leading scorer Khanyisa Mayo, who left the club to join Algerian side CR Belouizdad in this transfer window.

His arrival has been long awaited and delayed due to paperwork issues. When Soukouna was last in South Africa he overstayed his visa after his wife gave birth and so was unable to return until the issue was sorted out. He arrived back in the country on Monday, with City having already beaten Sekhukhune United in the MTN8 quarterfinals to set up a two-legged semifinal with Orlando Pirates.

The first of those games is in Cape Town on Tuesday, but it is unclear whether Soukouna has received a work permit to allow him to play.
