The air-inflated Cape Breton Health Recreation Complex dome will be replaced thanks to federal funding announced on Thursday. CONTRIBUTEDSYDNEY, N.S. — The Cape Breton Health Recreation Complex dome at Cape Breton University is poised to be replaced.
The announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, the federal Minister of Official Languages and Minister responsible for ACOA. “Community members of all ages are going to benefit tremendously from this investment, and for years to come,” said Ken MacLean, board of directors’ president for the Cape Breton Health Recreation Complex Corp., in a statement.
Opened in 2010, the climate-controlled dome, supported by internal pressurized air and external cables, has hosted everything from soccer to golf and from lacrosse to Australian rules football. The 270-by-180-foot facility served both the students of CBU and the broader community. CONTRIBUTED - CONTRIBUTEDThe dome’s 2020 failure was the third time it collapsed.
