In an interview with the Cape Breton Post in 2019, longtime training partner John Fraser said Delaney’s work ethic is what has made him successful. “He told me I needed to find a pressure release to get rid of some of it before it caused major problems. I asked him what he would suggest, and he said lifting weights wouldn’t hurt.”

“For me, the pandemic helped me because I’m focused again, I have no injuries or anything and that’s the biggest thing when you get older, you have to be careful with injuries.”“The number of lifters is fewer and fewer and COVID-19 really did knock them down because some people didn’t train for almost two years,” said Delaney, who considers his wife Cindy to be his head cheerleader and dietician.
