James Jobes of Sydney Mines will compete with Team Nova Scotia in box lacrosse at the 2022 Canada Summer Games in Niagara, Ont. Jobes and Nova Scotia will open the tournament on Tuesday when they play Alberta at 5 p.m. Atlantic time. PHOTO CONTRIBUTED.SYDNEY MINES, N.S. — When James Jobes picked up a lacrosse stick for the first time six years ago, he never anticipated being where he is today in the sport.
Jobes quickly realized lacrosse offered more opportunity than he had first thought. In fact, his commitment to the game in a short period of time has led him down a path he had never expected. “It’s a good league and there’s lots of talented players,” said Jobes. “You have to be skilled to get to the top of the league and it’s really helped me grow as a player and become better over the last year.”
Jobes acknowledged making the team took commitment, given the fact the tryouts and team practices are in the Halifax area, which requires a five-hour drive from his hometown to attend.
