Maritime Forces Pacific says HMCS Ottawa will be at Berth 3 of the Port Alberni Terminals on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. for guided tours.
A Canadian navy ship is sailing up island and docking in Port Alberni ahead of the weekend to offer the public an exclusive inside look onboard.
Maritime Forces Pacific says Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship Ottawa, a Halifax-class vessel, will be at Berth 3 of the Port Alberni Terminals this Saturday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. to offer free guided tours. Visitors will be able to chat with the ship’s crew about their roles onboard, and a team from Canadian Armed Forces recruiting will be on-site to provide information about how to enroll in the Royal Canadian Navy.
The public is welcome to capture photos during the tour and must follow COVID-19 precautions, including wearing a face mask while on the ship, according to Maritime Forces Pacific.Sign up for our newsletter to get breaking news and daily digests sent to your email.Homeported at CFB Esquimalt, HMCS Ottawa was first launched in 1996 and commissioned in Cornwall, Ont. before being transferred to Esquimalt.
The ship arrived in Port Alberni at around 10 a.m. on Friday to participate in a weekend of “community engagement” and is set to depart at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.
